Working sessions of the Summit: 52 speakers
Three working sessions took place on Wednesday, on the first day of the Second South Summit which His Highness the Emir of Qatar opened in the morning in the presence of the representatives of the 132 member countries of the Group of 77 and China.

No less than 52 speakers addressed the audience. Among them were the Prime Minister of Jamaica Percival Paterson, the Representative of the UN Secretary General Kofi Anan, and many Arab and international Leaders.

All the speakers underlined the need for the G77 countries to enhance the south-south cooperation as a complement of the North-South trade, and to do the necessary effort in order to implement the provisions of the Plans of Action which the member countries agreed upon and especially the Havana Plan of Action which will be included in the Doha Plan of Action.

They also called on the developed countries to give more importance to combating poverty and to further help the developing countries and in particular the least developed countries to achieve their goals and fulfill their aspirations and ambitions of their peoples who are suffering from poverty, illnesses, lack of education and many other hardships.

Concerning the UN reforms process, the speakers put the stress on the necessity of unifying their positions in order to have their word in this process and ensure that the reforms enhance the developing countries interest orientation policy of the international organization.
